Elections bourse ?€¦ rotten and stagnant goods

Dr. Hameid Abdullah
Media man and political researcher

A scene teeming with names, titles and slogans, but all are no longer impressing the oppressed Iraqi, afflicted with politicians who came in search of easy gain, cheap prize, and they carry replete pockets as though were bellies in their swelling and distention!

Since the appearance of Iraq on the political map as a viable state with pillars and elements of a state, Iraqis had never witnessed such a notorious corruption, expropriation of public funds, downright destruction that affected all hinges of the state and crept out into the community as a rampant epidemic as they palpably saw and sensed in "the Iraq", which his rulers like to qualify as (the new Iraq)!

In the name of democracy the unlettered have displaced the scholars, and in the name of freedom the previously convicted have become senior officials, in the name of religion thieves, imposters and the invalid have infiltrated to occupy the first class seats in the political process trailer which is showing now the signs of decay while still at nursing!

Political system in Iraq, however, does not need reflection, consideration and investigation to find a description commensurate with its nature, but that the misery of Iraqi people, loss, dislodging and impoverishment, and the attempt to eradicate him, divide into sectarian, regional and factional columns is the most eloquent telltale reflecting the features and countenances of the new system!

On account of that, many people have tried to replace their garments with other costumes but from the same cloth and all that they could do is to change the pattern of tailoring in the hope to delude the viewers that they are wearing a new costume, but this won't outwit the stupidest men let alone the brightest?!

A priori in the logic of politics that ethnicity does not meet with patriotism at the beginning of the road or in the middle nor at the end thereof, however, children of communities cannot be children of homelands even if they carry the homeland on their necks as Koran or Cross, and the hard fact is that who deal with homeland as a wallet, an oil barrel or a safe to which the rivals fight for the possession of  its keys, it is certain that those will not be patriotic however they pretty up their faces, change their titles, embellish their slogans and add to their names resounding epithets!

Arguably, Iraqi citizen has an insight that would enable him to distinguish between stagnant goods and decayed one, between goods made from the Burhi of Basra, the truffles of Anbar, and the oak of Sulaymaniyah, between those who give preference over themselves, even though they are in privation, and between those who monopolize the wealth of the country and see it as a legacy they inherited from their communities, factions or forebear!

From here, the Iraqi voter will go to the ballot box armed with infallible sense of smell and clairvoyance that would allow him to discern between countenances to judge their owners, and features to diagnose the faces of their persons, and then curtain will unveil both rotten and stagnant goods, and the bellies full of good will are the ones which remain far above trading in slogans and outbidding for people using bluffing slogans which neither nourish nor enrich those who are not missed by an eye, whose names are forgone by voters, because their life history is self-evident and their names bespeak of them!
