Statement on the political situation in Iraq

Statement from the CINU
Although 50 days have elapsed since parliamentary elections have been held, political pressures still contribute significantly to the delay of forming new government, a fact that suspended the dreams of Iraqi citizen in the wind especially after the last decisions of the Accountability and Justice Board suggestive of political purposes to remove dozens of candidates under the title "rooting out", and also judicial decisions that are calling for holding new sorting and counting processes related to Baghdad governorate elections.

And as we have drawn the attention since early time for the need to keep the political agendas of some blocs and parties off the electoral process and leave the Iraqi citizen decide his future and choose his representatives thru a transparent democratic process, then the processes of extortion that have been practiced against many political national entities and figures, including our coalition, have come back to the front by this or that political party in an attempt to sequester the will of Iraqi voter, are a signal of sequestering the democracy and murdering the political process in Iraq.

And today, it is no longer a secret that the political atmosphere in Iraq is more fraught then ever with serious disagreements, and that the Board of Accountability and Justice has become totally in a dubious position and questionable because of its strange decisions timing, and which is supposed to lead an active role in the protection of the democratic process not to be a party in the service of specific political parties.

The sensitive political and general conditions in the country which followed the announcement of elections' results would not tolerate any form of rhetoric or other actions that would destroy completely the burgeoning democratic achievement, and consequently we should not let tens of thousands of votes be written off thru deliberate decisions without due respect to feelings and will of these voters.

Our coalition have already warned and we reiterate it here that the Board of Accountability and Justice and whoever administers it or affects its decisions should to be aware of their role, and by virtue of the constitution they have no right to run the political process using a remote control according to non-Iraqi interests, whims and agendas.

However, our Coalition calls on the UN and Arab League, Islamic Action Organization and the European Union, and the US administration for the need to intervene immediately and urgently in Iraq to prevent Iraq slipping into (God forbid) a new cycle of violence and disorder that will never serve the country's interests nor the interests of the region and the world.
